After I finished reading her latest book, a novel titled "Michael's Gentle Wife," I had to read the first book she wrote, introducing her characters Carol and Michael, “Pocketful of Pinecones—Nature Study with the Gentle art of Learning.” Although the setting is in the 1930s, butterflies and birds have not changed their basic habits. Not only does the story describe Carol learning how to teach her children nature study, it is a resource for today’s homeschooling parent.
Designed in four parts by the seasons of the year, nature study lessons are woven into the fabric of Carol’s daily life educating her children. The Suggested Reading appendix is a treasure trove of resources to help with nature study. I was taken back to the days of homeschooling my three children and all the learning and fun we had studying nature and creating nature notebooks. A gentle and encouraging resource. Highly recommended!
