By following a few homeschool authors, I came across the suggestion to attend a writing conference, ideally once a year. Sounded like a good idea to me. I found a Christian writers conference that offered the option to attend virtually. This was much more economical than traveling out of state. So, I signed up.

After registration, I received emails with information about speakers, workshops, and instructions regarding technology. I looked forward to 'meeting' other Christian authors and learning more about writing a book. Just because my first book was already published didn't mean I had this second book figured out. A travel memoir is much different than a book of encouragement for homeschooling parents.

Here are my three key conference take-aways:

1. Read current books on the topic.

2. Read book reviews of similar books, looking for felt needs.

3. Recruit a prayer support group.

4. Keep a journal of encouragements I receive.

I will cover each of these take-aways in detail in upcoming posts. Until then, I leave you with a photo of a Hedgehog Cactus in bloom. Taken in the pollinator garden in my neighborhood.
