Lohr am Main, Germany

Did you know that the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is based on a true-ish story? The opening photo is of a puppet show of Snow White. Our young friends, Lisa and Ruben, took us to the town of Lohr am Main to learn about the origins of this fable. 

The Spessart Museum is located in this small castle. It features many exhibits about the region, the forests, the industries, and the Snow White story. Notice the silhouette of her and the dwarves in the foreground.

After some thorough research in the 1980s, it was discovered that the fairy tale written by the Brothers Grimm was created from some facts. After the death of his wife, a local man remarried. But his new wife did not like his daughter. The seven surrounding hills were imagined as seven dwarves. Besides mining, the area also produced beautiful mirrors. We had no idea!

The fabled mirror of Snow White's evil step-mother, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" Here it is in German:

We enjoyed walking through the town Lohr am Main with its quiet streets used mostly by pedestrians and bicyclists. 

The half-timbered buildings are preserved in beautiful condition. We enjoyed just roaming around the town's lanes.
