After smooth flights and connections, Brian and I arrived at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam. We like to fly to Europe through Schipol because it's not a huge airport, and all the signage is in English. The airport employees speak English as well, which makes getting through passport control and customs easy. We even remembered the spot where to wait for an Uber.

After checking in to our hotel in the old town, we took a much needed walk to stretch our legs and get some fresh air.

We enjoyed getting acquainted with Amsterdam again with its lovely canals and historic train station.

We stopped at an Italian restaurant for dinner. Brian order garlic bread, which came as a pizza crust with cheese and garlic, and French onion soup.

I ordered minestrone soup, which had a clear broth base rather than tomato, and salad. Both were delicious.

On our way back to the hotel, we walked through Amsterdam's Jewish quarter. Brian is looking at "stumbling blocks." These are found in many European cities. They serve as memorials to the Jewish people who inhabited the homes right behind them. Sometimes these homes are now businesses. Each concrete block topped with a brass plate reads "Here lived" and gives the person's name, date of birth, and date of death, deportation to a concentration camp, or successful emigration. Quite sobering.

A stroll and a light dinner after a long flight makes for a good way to begin shaking off jetlag. We did not take a nap, so we were sound asleep shortly after 8:00 p.m.
