To start our second day in Oslo, we took the bus and tram again to the harbor area and enjoyed street views of the city on the way.

We visited Oslo in August, which these lovely flowers can attest to.

Here we are right at the waterfront. Brian and I are about to get in line for the short ferry ride across the bay to Oslo's Bygdøy Peninsula, an area where several museums are located.

Views of Oslo's harbor area.

Once we arrived at the peninsula, we decided to visit the Fram Museum first. Named after the Norwegian polar ship that, in its heyday, broke polar exploration records. Interesting and interactive exhibits describing Norwegian expeditions, vessels, and explorers.

The Gjøa below, the first vessel to sail the Northwest Passage. Roald Amundsen led the expedition; it took him and his crew of six three years to make the transit, ending in 1906.

Museum-goers can explore the deck, viewing all the rigging . . .

as well as a windmill.

These photos were taken of the original interior of the Fram. The Fram was built for Arctic expeditions. Basic sleeping quarters below.

A bit fancier accommodations, probably for the officers.

The dining room. Notice the very breakable china dishes on the sideboard.

Between museums we got a bite to eat and enjoyed the view from the peninsula side of the harbor.

Such lovely weather to take in the view of the city of Oslo.

Next stop, the Kon-Tiki Museum. All about Thor Heyedahl and his amazing journey from South America to the Tuamoto Islands in the Pacific Ocean as well as his journey on a papyrus boat, the Ra II, from Africa to Barbados in 1970.

A fascinating story about an amazing explorer. His book by the same title, Kon-Tiki, has sold millions in sixty-five languages.

We also visited the nearby Norwegian Maritime Museum, which features cultural, archeological, and interactive exhibits of Norway's maritime history. With our brains filled to the brims, we took the last ferry of the day back to Oslo's waterfront.

Such a contrast of a refurbished historic sailing vessel in the foreground and a modern ferry in the background. A great day learning so much about Norway!
